I love what you said about eating at a restaurant within a grocery store. I think that finding the right restaurant is a worthwhile pursuit. I want to find a restaurant where I can take my kids, so I’ll make sure to find the best one in my community.

In reply to Mary. I totally feel you, except I'm the one who's GF and DF. It's so hard to find good restaurants with many options for food restrictions when you travel, especially in small towns or places in the Midwest. Grocery stores are clutch!

These are great traveling tips! I can't even think about how many grocery stores we've traipsed through over the years while we were on the road. We've found that stopping at locally-owned grocery stores can give you some interesting insights into a community as well.

Good tips! I just wish there were more Whole Foods (and similar food stores) in smaller and more rural areas (or at the coast!!!). My kids are GF and DF and it’s nearly impossible to find a suitable restaurant when we’re in a smaller area/region. I have to plan plan plan and bring as many groceries as I can. Restaurants are hard for us these days (outside of the Portland area that is).
I’ll always take advantage of a good food store (with fresh food options) when I see them!
